DOD Celebrates Military Spouse Appreciation Month in May

Deputy assistant secretary of defense calls military spouses the “heart and backbone” of the military community.

The Department of Defense (DoD) will be celebrating Military Spouse Appreciation Month in May, offering a number of virtual events to honor and support the unique position of military spouses. Each event will be hosted with two time slots to make it accessible to those stationed around the globe. There are nearly 1 million spouses partnered with members of the U.S. military, and these events will focus on their self-care and individual career pursuits throughout “MilSpouse Month 2023”.

“Military spouses are the heart and backbone of our military community and their well-being is tied to the readiness of our armed forces,” said Patricia Montes Barron, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy. “During mission, deployment, reintegration and reset, spouses are partners in military life. MilSpouse Month is the DOD’s dedicated effort to honor their commitment and sacrifices while giving them tools to set and achieve their goals.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Austin to seek God’s guidance as he heads the Defense Department.
  • For Deputy Assistant Secretary Montes Barron as she oversees the Military Community and Family Policy office.
  • For the spouses of military personnel as they make sacrifices to hold military families and communities together.
